About Yoncalı
The Legend Continues
Yoncalı is a region where hot water boils from the ground at the foot of Kirazlı Mountain, but it has remained an ordinary swamp for hundreds of years. Today, the story of how it became a place people prefer for healing and resting dates back to the Seljuk State.
According to legend, during the Anatolian Seljuk State, Sultan I. Alâeddin Keykubad's daughter named Gülümser Hatun contracted a skin disease. Gülümser Hatun's beautiful face and body were getting worse; her skin and hair were falling out. The girl, who was ashamed to go out in public, asked her father to leave her somewhere far away and that she wanted to live alone. Alaaddin Keykubat, who was very upset about his daughter's situation but could not find a cure for her trouble, fulfilled his daughter's request.
Gülümser Hatun was taken to the area around today's Yoncalı, where she would live her destiny away from people in a tent set up there. Then one day, she sees a fox with hair loss and sores on its body entering the water every day and lying in the water. The fox comes every day and lies in the water boiling from the ground. Gülümser Hatun notices something while observing the fox. Thanks to this process repeated by the fox every day, its wounds have healed and its fur has grown. Seeing that the healing properties of the water coming out of the ground have healed the fox, Gülümser Hatun applies the hot water to its body as the fox does. When she sees that the wounds on its face and body are healing and its hair is growing every day, she sends news to her father that she has recovered.
Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubad I arrives in Yoncalı with joy. The Sultan announces to everyone with drums and zurnas that his daughter has recovered thanks to Yoncalı and that the waters of Yoncalı are healing. Sultan Alaaddin Keykubad I has a large bathhouse with a pool and a mosque built in Yoncalı so that other people can also find healing here.
It is assumed that these structures were built in 1230. The legend that started centuries ago continues in Gülümser Hatun Thermal Facilities. Now we invite you to be a part of this legend.
